The Creative Approach
The creative direction centered on natural light, minimal posing, and radiant tones to highlight Celeta’s natural features. The strong Florida sunlight at midday helped define her skin tone and the texture of her curls, which became the focal point of the visual narrative.
Every frame was meant to celebrate authentic beauty, confidence, and diversity, presenting an image of black femininity that is both powerful and effortlessly elegant. The editing process emphasized warmth and vibrancy to maintain a bright, summer-inspired atmosphere.
The Publication
The Celeta editorial was featured in Ellements Magazine, July Summer Issue 2 (2019). Known for showcasing high-end beauty and fashion photography, Ellements provided the perfect platform to highlight Celeta’s striking look and our creative vision.
This publication marked a milestone in her journey and a proud moment in my own career as a fashion and editorial photographer — celebrating diversity, style, and natural beauty through art.
The Story
-
I first met Celeta S. through another model who had a studio photoshoot scheduled with me. Celeta had come along simply to support her friend, but the moment I saw her, I was immediately captivated by her natural afro, radiant complexion, and undeniable beauty. She had a presence that could easily adapt to any concept from high fashion to lifestyle, from creative lighting to sensual editorials.
-
Over the years, Celeta and I worked together on multiple shoots that explored a wide range of styles and moods. This particular project, later titled Celeta, was about capturing confidence, beauty, and sensuality in a relaxed, natural setting.
-
We wanted the editorial to feel effortless yet bold — showing Celeta first in denim shorts and a long white button-up shirt, then transitioning into swimwear underneath as she gradually embraced the coastal breeze and sunlight. The concept symbolized self-expression and freedom, celebrating black beauty and individuality.
-
The shoot took place at Cypress Point Park in Tampa, Florida, around noon. The blue sky, soft clouds, and calm ocean water created the perfect environment for a chill yet empowering summer vibe.

Celeta was more than just a summer editorial; it was an artistic collaboration that represented freedom, self-expression, and authenticity. Working with Celeta reminded me of how powerful it can be when confidence and creativity come together in front of the camera.
