The Story

I first met Leina Faye in 2016 when I was still modeling. We worked together a few times in front of the camera, but once I transitioned fully into photography, I knew I wanted her to be my star model.

Leina stood out immediately, not just because of her striking facial features and strong presence, but because of her drive. While many local models in Florida lacked the ambition to push further, Leina had the vision of becoming a supermodel and the work ethic to back it up. She was already signed to an agency, had walked runways, and appeared in public campaigns like the St. Pete Clearwater billboards. The challenge for me as a photographer was to create imagery that matched her professional level while also offering something fresh for her portfolio.

The Creative Approach

Each shoot with Leina was an opportunity to experiment, grow, and refine my creative direction. I aimed to:

  • Design concepts that elevated her portfolio while challenging me to push past my comfort zone.

  • Capture her range from editorial beauty to high-fashion concepts.

  • Highlight her identity and individuality, ensuring the work stood out in a saturated industry.

What makes this collection special is not only the imagery but also the creative partnership that developed over time, one where both of us grew in our respective crafts.

In Her Words

"I started modeling because of Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model show. Me and my mom would literally always watch it together when I was 8. My journey has been a roller coaster. I started slow, then everything came at once, and later I stepped back for personal reasons. But I love it, and I can’t wait to see what else I can do with it.

I have noticed that sometimes my ethnicity and hair type limit me. For example, when I have braids, I do not get as much work as when I wear my natural hair. Even then, many hairstylists do not know how to handle my hair, which is frustrating. I also tend to be the token Black model in shoots or campaigns to make them look diverse.

My goal is simple. I want to model full time without worrying about my next check. I dream of walking runways for Gucci, Fendi, and other big brands, and being featured in magazines and editorials. Runway shows are such a big part of my dreams.” — Leina Faye
