The Creative Approach
The visual direction centered around warm tones, sensual energy, and sunset lighting. The natural backdrop of Sarasota Beach enhanced the contrast between the red and gold hues, amplifying the theme of passion and allure.
Composition and posing were carefully guided to maintain a balance between elegance and confidence, ensuring the final images reflected both sophistication and emotional intensity. The editing process emphasized warmth, smooth textures, and a radiant glow that matched the theme of “fire and desire.”
The Publication
Fire and Desire was featured in Summers Magazine, April 2018, a publication known for its focus on swimwear and summer fashion editorials. The feature placed Elsa alongside model Allie Leggett and marked her first magazine appearance, representing a milestone in her career and another important step in mine as a growing editorial photographer.
The Story
-
I first met Elsa N. during a trip to Miami for one of my poetry book signings. While there, I came across her modeling portfolio on Instagram and was immediately impressed by her unique style and confidence. Since I was staying in Miami for a few days, I decided to schedule a few photoshoots, with Elsa being one of the models I wanted to collaborate with.
-
Her wardrobe choices, fashion sense, and distinctive accessories left a strong impression on me, and from that shoot forward, I knew I wanted to continue working with her. Over the years, our creative collaboration grew, and Fire and Desire became one of our standout projects together.
-
We shot the editorial in Sarasota, Florida during sunset, using the warm glow of golden hour to set the perfect tone. Elsa wore a red two-piece swimsuit by Love J paired with a mesh dress by Kikiriki, combining sensuality and elegance in one look. The goal was to capture something sexy yet classy, an editorial that would truly set hearts on fire.
-
What made this project even more meaningful was that Elsa and I both share Dominican roots, making this collaboration feel especially personal. Fire and Desire also marked Elsa’s first magazine publication, which made the experience even more rewarding for both of us.
Takeaway
This project embodies the connection between culture, creativity, and passion. Collaborating with Elsa was not only a creative success but also a personal one, as it celebrated shared heritage and artistic growth. Seeing her achieve her first publication through Fire and Desire remains one of my proudest early moments in editorial photography.
